Delta Air Lines has introduced a new domestic baggage drop-off deadline, requiring passengers to check their bags at least 45 minutes before departure for most domestic flights. This policy went into effect on April 8, 2025, and is aimed at standardizing procedures across the airline’s U.S. network.
According to Delta, this update supports its commitment to safety, cleanliness, and on-time performance. The airline noted that internal testing and data analysis show most passengers already check their bags earlier than 45 minutes before departure, suggesting the change will have minimal impact for the majority of travelers.
However, travelers should check specific airport guidelines, as timing requirements may differ at certain locations. For example, New York’s JFK Airport still requires bag drop-offs at least 60 minutes before departure.
Delta encourages all passengers to arrive early and familiarize themselves with their departure airport’s individual policies to ensure a smooth and timely check-in experience.
