China is set to unveil the world’s tallest bridge this June, a monumental structure soaring 625 meters (2,051 feet) above the Huajiang Canyon in southwestern Guizhou Province.
The Huajiang Canyon Bridge, which spans the Beipan River, has been under construction for three years at an estimated cost of $283 million. Designed to dramatically improve regional connectivity, the bridge will cut travel time between the two mountainous regions from over an hour to just minutes.
Engineers selected a suspension bridge design to address the technical challenges of the deep canyon and rugged landscape. The bridge’s slim, aerodynamic profile is intended to reduce wind resistance and minimize visual impact.
Once completed, the Huajiang Canyon Bridge will surpass all others in vertical height, cementing China’s continued leadership in world-class infrastructure.
