The Nigerian federal government has introduced a new initiative to reduce air travel costs across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). The BisonFly Project is a centralized, technology-driven system aimed at optimizing and discounting air travel for government officials.
In a recent inauguration ceremony held in Abuja, Mr. Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, emphasized that the BisonFly Project is a strategic response to the need for cost-saving measures within the federal civil service. The initiative was developed by the Federal Ministry of Finance to ensure structured, optimized, and transparent air travel bookings.
Travel expenses in MDAs have often been described as opaque, with claims of inflated ticket prices by officials. To address this, the new system will automate the booking process for government officials, ensuring greater transparency.
According to Mohammed Manga, Director of Information and Public Relations, the BisonFly Project will integrate digital booking tools with a central platform, providing a more efficient and accountable way to manage official travel arrangements. The system is expected to go live in the coming months.
