Latin America: Consular Processing and Travel Disruptions Due to Diplomatic Orders

Mary

August 1, 2024 – The Venezuelan government has mandated the return of all Venezuelan diplomatic personnel from Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Panama, Peru, and Uruguay, and has instructed these countries to withdraw their representatives from Venezuela. This move is causing significant disruptions in consular services for individuals with applications at these consular posts, both within the affected countries and in Venezuela.

Travelers should anticipate delays and processing issues until further notice. Additionally, flights between Venezuela and the Dominican Republic, Panama, and Peru are experiencing disruptions.

The ongoing protests in Venezuela are further complicating matters, limiting access to government offices and potentially delaying the processing of immigration-related applications filed within the country.

The situation remains fluid, and updates will be provided as new information becomes available. Fragomen is actively working with affected clients on a case-by-case basis to navigate these disruptions.
