As business travel returns to pre-pandemic levels in 2024, companies are being advised to reevaluate their safety and security measures due to emerging threats.
Bala Selvam, Regional Security Manager at International SOS, highlighted the current landscape of business travel, noting that it is now facing a range of new and evolving risks. He pointed out that the rise of misinformation and environmental and health concerns are significant factors impacting travel.
“Digital and social media platforms are instrumental in shaping public perceptions and driving discussions. However, misinformation regarding safe travel routes or the severity of real-time situations can inadvertently lead travelers into dangerous situations,” Selvam warned.
He also noted that natural disasters could disrupt travel plans and present direct health risks. Additionally, health concerns remain a critical issue, particularly in regions with inadequate healthcare infrastructure or where new health threats are emerging. Selvam emphasized the need for businesses to stay informed about these risks and to be prepared to support their travelers effectively.
