WISCONSIN — The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) is advising drivers to exercise patience, adhere to speed limits, and remain vigilant during the upcoming Labor Day weekend. According to the American Automobile Association (AAA), peak travel times are anticipated between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Friday, and from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday.
DOT Secretary Craig Thompson emphasized that while many will be enjoying the final days of summer and planning one last getaway, safe driving practices should not be neglected. “Drivers are urged to keep their attention focused on the road and reduce their speeds,” Thompson stated.
Most road construction activities will be suspended for the holiday weekend to maximize lane availability. There are no major projects expected to disrupt travel in Dodge County. However, travelers should be aware of lane shifts and reduced speed limits on the I-39/90/94 bridge over the Wisconsin River in Columbia County, south of Portage, where three lanes are open in each direction.
