UK Extends Travel Authorisation Fee to Australian Citizens

Mary

The United Kingdom will implement a new travel authorisation requirement for Australian citizens beginning January 2025. This policy extension mirrors similar schemes already in place in countries like Australia and the United States.

Under the updated regulations, Australians will need to obtain an electronic travel authorisation (ETA) to enter the UK. This measure is part of a broader initiative affecting visitors from countries that do not require a UK visa. By April 2025, all non-visa-required visitors, excluding British and Irish citizens, will be required to secure an ETA before traveling to the UK.

Migration and Citizenship Minister Seema Malhotra stated that this move aims to bolster security and modernize the UK’s immigration system. The new requirement aligns the UK’s policies with those of other major nations, enhancing the overall efficiency of border management.
