Google Enhances Sustainable Travel Options with Amtrak Data Integration

Mary

Google has announced the integration of Amtrak data into its search results, allowing users to access departure times, journey durations, and fares for rail travel when considering options alongside other transportation methods. Travelers can now select a train and seamlessly click through to Amtrak.com to finalize their bookings without needing to re-enter their travel details.

In addition to flight searches, Google Search and Google Flights will now present rail options, encouraging users to consider more sustainable travel choices.

This new integration replaces Google’s previous reliance on third-party data sources to provide Amtrak information, streamlining the process for users.

Roger Harris, president of Amtrak, emphasized the significance of this initiative, stating, “One of the biggest contributions we can make to climate change is changing the way people travel. As we continue to promote train travel over cars and planes, we’re excited that this integration simplifies the search for rail options, helping users meet their travel needs while potentially reducing their carbon emissions.”
