Bangkok – In the wake of devastating floods that affected northern Thailand in September and early October, the government is taking swift action to aid recovery and stimulate the local economy.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has unveiled the “Half-Price Travel to the North” initiative, responding to proposals from the private sector aimed at revitalizing tourism. This program is set to kick off on November 1, 2024, coinciding with the return of major tourism events in the region, including the Loy Krathong festival and various winter celebrations.
Suwongthanthong, the Minister of Tourism and Sports, announced on October 15 that the TAT is currently gathering a range of tourism-related products and packages to feature in its application system. Participating businesses, hotels, and accommodation providers will be able to register through the app. Meanwhile, travelers can access discounts by scanning a QR code within the application.
This initiative aims not only to restore tourism in the affected areas but also to foster a sense of community and resilience among local businesses and residents.
