China Airlines has launched its inaugural flight between Melbourne and Auckland, offering a new option for travelers across the Tasman Sea. The first flight took off from Melbourne on Wednesday, December 3, marking the start of daily service, except on Mondays and Saturdays.
This new route is a seasonal extension of China Airlines’ existing Taipei-Melbourne service, adding over 3,000 seats per week to the Melbourne-Auckland market, just in time for the busy summer holiday season.
The service is operated with the airline’s flagship Airbus A350, which is known for its fuel efficiency and exceptional passenger comfort. Passengers can enjoy a choice of travel classes, including lie-flat business class seats, premium economy, and full-service economy, offering a range of options for trans-Tasman travel.
Jim Parashos, Melbourne Airport’s chief of aviation, emphasized that the new service offers travelers a competitive option for crossing the Tasman and also connects New Zealand to Asia via Melbourne, creating new opportunities for onward travel to Taipei and beyond.
He also noted that the added flights will bring much-needed competition to the trans-Tasman market, which will help drive down airfares and offer more choice for passengers.
With its superior passenger experience, the Airbus A350 will be a key feature of the new service, promising a comfortable and convenient way to travel between Melbourne and Auckland.
