Japan is intensifying its efforts to attract international tourists in anticipation of Expo 2025, set to take place in Osaka from April to October next year. The Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) has launched new webpages and social media campaigns to inspire travelers with fresh content related to the Expo.
The JNTO is inviting visitors to “explore the essence of Japan’s inochi (foundation)” by discovering the country’s diverse regions. Tourists are encouraged to engage with the Expo’s sub-themes: saving lives, empowering lives, and connecting lives, each offering unique experiences.
Under the “saving lives” theme, visitors can explore ways to coexist harmoniously with nature. One example is the Godzilla Rock Tour, where groups of 50 to 80 people can take a boat tour to observe wildlife around Shiretoko Peninsula in Hokkaido, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site.
The “empowering lives” theme focuses on enriching life through physical activity and healthy living. Travelers can enjoy a variety of experiences, such as a farm stay in Odate, Akita Prefecture, known for its traditional cuisine, or a tea field tour and tasting in the southern Japanese Alps.
For the “connecting lives” sub-theme, visitors can delve into community-building and societal engagement. Options include learning about the Nebuta festival in Aomori, where giant illuminated floats are created and admired, or participating in a Zen experience at a Kyoto temple founded in 1590, guided by English-speaking Zen monks.
The new JNTO webpages also offer practical travel tips, such as advice on Wi-Fi, credit cards, luggage storage, weather, and accessibility, making it easier for visitors to plan their trip.
