Sydney Airport is set to experience its busiest day for domestic travel since 2019, with more than 81,000 passengers expected to depart or arrive today. From December 13 to January 27, a total of 5.8 million people are forecast to travel through the airport’s terminals.
The T1 International terminal is projected to handle 2.5 million international passengers, marking the busiest Christmas season for overseas travel since 2019. This represents an 8 percent increase over last year. On the domestic front, the T2 and T3 Domestic terminals are expected to serve 3.3 million passengers, a 9 percent rise compared to 2023.
The busiest day for international travel is predicted to be Saturday, January 4, 2025, with over 62,000 passengers passing through the airport.
Melbourne Airport is also preparing for a record-breaking holiday season, with 4.8 million passengers expected to travel through the airport between December 13 and January 27. Of this, more than 1.8 million will be international travelers, setting a new record for overseas travel during the summer period.
“This holiday season is expected to be busy, and while there may be queues, we will have plenty of staff on hand to ensure passengers travel safely,” said Scott Charlton, CEO of Sydney Airport. He urged travelers to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys.
Charlton also advised that due to ongoing construction and security upgrades as part of a multimillion-dollar capital program, passenger experiences may differ from usual. He reassured the public that increased staffing and additional overflow drop-off zones would be in place to manage the surge in travelers.
