AAA Forecasts 2.7 Million Tennesseans Traveling for the Holidays

by Mary

As the year-end holiday season approaches, Tennesseans are set to travel in near-record numbers, with an estimated 2.7 million residents expected to journey at least 50 miles from home between Saturday, December 21, and Wednesday, January 1.

According to AAA, this represents an increase of over 62,000 travelers compared to last year, though it falls just short of the record high set in 2019. The national outlook is similarly robust, with AAA projecting a total of 119.3 million Americans traveling during the same period—an increase of 3 million from last year and a slight surpassing of the 2019 record by 64,000 travelers.

“Travelers should prepare for heavier-than-usual crowds at roads, airports, and cruise terminals,” said Debbie Haas, Vice President of Travel for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “We recommend finalizing your travel plans as soon as possible and giving yourself extra time to reach your destination. Additionally, we suggest purchasing travel insurance to help mitigate potential disruptions caused by winter weather or unforeseen circumstances.”
