International Travel Soars as Year-End Holidays Approach, New Destinations Gain Popularity
As the year-end holidays draw near, international travel is expected to see a significant uptick, with short-haul favorites like Thailand, Vietnam, and Bali topping the list of destinations for Indian travelers. At the same time, emerging locations such as Azerbaijan and the Philippines are gaining traction.
According to travel platform Ixigo, bookings to destinations like Thailand, Vietnam, Bali, and London have seen an impressive year-on-year increase of 80-100%. Agoda has also reported a 53% rise in international accommodation searches, while Cleartrip noted a 1.2x jump in international leisure travel, particularly to Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
Emerging destinations are particularly popular this year. MakeMyTrip recorded a staggering 248% growth in searches for Azerbaijan and a 100% increase for Malaysia. Similarly, Cleartrip observed a sharp rise in bookings for Manila (up 2.5x) and Tbilisi (up 1.7x), as well as notable growth for Bali (2.6x) and Phuket (2.3x).
This surge in both well-known and emerging international destinations reflects a growing appetite for diverse travel experiences among Indian travelers.
