by Mary

With the festive season and school holidays around the corner, many Malaysians are making travel plans as part of the growing “revenge travel” trend, according to industry players.

Travel agencies and hotels are seeing a surge in inquiries and early bookings, particularly for family and group travel, as people look to make up for lost vacations during the pandemic.

Datuk Tan Kok Liang, president of the Malaysian Tourism Federation, noted a clear trend in international travel to ASEAN countries. He attributed this to regional airline promotions and easier travel options.

“However, long-haul trips remain popular among higher-income groups, especially to Europe and East Asian destinations like Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and China,” Tan said. “Visa-free policies in these regions help reduce administrative hassles for Malaysian travelers.”

Madelina Kuah, president of the Melaka Tourism Association, added that domestic travel is also a top choice for many Malaysians due to its affordability and convenience.
