Christmas travel in the Philippines is seeing a significant surge this week, with authorities reporting over 42,000 travelers across the country’s ports.
According to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), a total of 42,847 passengers passed through various ports between midnight and 6 a.m. on December 23. This number includes 19,701 inbound passengers and 23,146 outbound passengers.
The PCG also reported that its personnel had conducted safety checks on 182 vessels and 28 motorbancas during the same period.
To manage the growing number of travelers, the Coast Guard has placed its districts, stations, and sub-stations on heightened alert from December 20, 2024, to January 3, 2025.
