To ease holiday travel, the Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) will temporarily suspend lane closures on major highways, interstates, and roads near shopping centers from December 23, 2024, to January 5, 2025.
The suspension, which will be in effect from 5 a.m. Monday through 10 p.m. Sunday, is aimed at helping reduce congestion during the busy holiday season. While construction-related lane closures will be paused, drivers are advised to stay alert as maintenance crews may still be working near highways. Some long-term closures may also remain for safety reasons.
Additionally, lane closures due to emergencies, accidents, or essential maintenance could still occur at any time during this period.
