Travel Surge Expected in North Country as Winter Holidays Approach

by Mary

As the year draws to a close, the North Country is preparing for a significant surge in travelers, with many flocking to the region for the holidays and winter activities.

Plattsburgh International Airport expects between 12,000 and 13,000 passengers to pass through this week, a busy period for air travel. Amtrak and bus services, including Greyhound, are also anticipating heavy demand as people journey to the North Country to enjoy the season’s offerings.

With gas prices projected to be the lowest since 2020, road travelers may find some relief at the pump during this busy travel period.

Local officials are hopeful that the region’s appeal as a winter destination will leave a lasting impression on visitors. Molly Ryan, Clinton County’s economic development director, emphasized that the region has much to offer and that many visitors may be inspired to return in the future.

“People are definitely coming here, and it’s a great opportunity to showcase what makes this place unique. We want to encourage visitors to extend their stay and come back again because there’s so much to enjoy here,” she said.

However, with winter weather unpredictable, officials urge travelers to stay informed about weather forecasts and check for potential delays or cancellations, whether they’re flying or using public transit, to ensure a smooth journey.
