Tourism Malaysia recently honored key players in India’s travel industry for their significant contributions to promoting Malaysia as a prime travel destination. The country has witnessed a remarkable surge in Indian visitors, with over one million Indian tourists choosing Malaysia this year, setting a new record for arrivals from India.
Malaysian High Commissioner to India, Datuk Muzafar Shah Mustafa, expressed pride in the milestone, saying, “Malaysia is now firmly established as a leading holiday destination for outbound Indian travellers. Over one million Indian travellers have chosen Malaysia as their destination of choice this year. This is a reflection of the trust, passion, and collaboration between Tourism Malaysia and the Indian travel industry.”
The growth in Indian arrivals was particularly boosted by the introduction of free visa entry in December 2023. This policy change significantly contributed to the increase in travel, as Malaysia welcomed 671,846 Indian visitors last year. Between January and November of 2023, the figure surpassed one million, marking a substantial rise in Indian tourist numbers.
Looking ahead, Malaysia is set to further strengthen its position as a top destination for Indian travellers. The country is gearing up for its tourism promotion activities in 2024, leading up to the highly anticipated Visit Malaysia Year 2026. Ahmad Johanif Mohd Ali, Director of Tourism Malaysia in New Delhi, stated, “The strong demand for travel between India and Malaysia is supported by excellent air connectivity and continues to grow. Our target for 2025 is to welcome at least 1.1 million arrivals from India.”
With the steady increase in arrivals, Malaysia remains a key destination for Indian travellers, offering a mix of cultural experiences, natural beauty, and modern amenities.
