The busy holiday travel season is in full swing, with significant congestion at airports and on roadways nationwide, including in metro Atlanta. According to AAA, airports are expected to bear the brunt of the travel crowds, with the weekend following Christmas anticipated to be the peak of this congestion.
“I guess it’s typical travel during Christmas time,” said Chris, a flyer at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Despite the heavy traffic and record-breaking travel projections, Chris reported that his experience was relatively smooth. “Pretty smooth for me, nothing out of the ordinary,” he added.
AAA estimates that 119 million people will travel at least 50 miles from their homes between now and January 1, 2025, marking one of the busiest travel periods of the year.
Raydeana Hunt, a passenger returning to Georgia from a visit to family in North Carolina, also shared her positive experience. “It wasn’t as bad as I thought. When I came through Atlanta on Monday, it was very easy. It was crowded, but easy,” she said.
As the travel period continues, travelers are being urged to remain patient as airports and highways remain busy through the end of the holiday season.
