The season’s most powerful winter storm is causing widespread disruptions to air travel, affecting a large portion of the country.
Snow, ice, and freezing temperatures have gripped much of the Midwest, leading to thousands of flight delays and cancellations. The situation is expected to worsen as the storm moves toward the East Coast.
As of 7:15 p.m. EST Sunday, more than 1,500 flights had been canceled across the U.S., according to FlightAware data. An additional 6,700 flights have been delayed.
Kansas City International Airport (MCI) in Missouri has experienced the worst of the disruptions, with nearly 95% of its scheduled departures canceled Sunday due to blizzard-like conditions.
