Emirates is set to make history as the world’s first “Autism Certified Airline,” marking a major step toward making air travel more inclusive and accessible for all. The airline has received certification from the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES) for its efforts to support travelers with autism and sensory sensitivities.
As part of its commitment, more than 30,000 Emirates staff will complete autism and sensory-awareness training by 2025. This builds on the training already provided to 23,000 team members in 2023. The airline is also introducing new services, such as sensory guides, which are digital tools designed to help passengers navigate environments based on their individual preferences.
In addition, Emirates will offer sensory products, including fidget toys, to help reduce stress and improve comfort during flights. These efforts are part of a broader initiative to make travel more accessible, in line with Dubai’s goal of becoming the world’s most accessible destination.
Emirates’ Dubai check-in facilities have already earned ‘Certified Autism Center’ status, while Dubai International Airport (DXB) achieved the same recognition in 2023. The certification follows extensive research and audits by IBCCES, incorporating feedback from individuals with autism, healthcare professionals, and industry experts.
