The Nagpur-Goa Shaktipeeth Expressway, set to transform travel in Maharashtra, is expected to reduce journey times drastically, link important pilgrimage sites, and boost tourism across the state.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the Mahayuti government is progressing with the development of the Nagpur-Goa Shaktipeeth Expressway, a major infrastructure project designed to connect key pilgrimage destinations, including Maharashtra’s Shaktipeeths. The initiative aims to enhance regional connectivity and foster tourism growth.
Recently, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) resubmitted its application for environmental clearance for the expressway. Earlier, in August, the project encountered a setback when MSRDC withdrew its initial proposal following concerns raised during a meeting in Kolhapur. The meeting, attended by farmers and leaders such as Eknath Shinde, Devendra Fadnavis, and Ajit Pawar, led to calls for reconsidering the project.
To address these concerns, MSRDC has proposed alternative alignment options for various sections of the expressway, covering areas from Wardha to Sindhudurg. The revised plans aim to accommodate local community feedback while ensuring the project remains on track.
At 802 kilometers, the Nagpur-Goa Shaktipeeth Expressway will become one of India’s longest expressways, surpassing the 701-kilometer Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi Mahamarg. Once completed, the expressway is expected to cut the travel time between Nagpur and Goa from the current 18-20 hours to just 8-10 hours, offering significant convenience and efficiency for travelers.
