A travel agency executive confirmed on Tuesday that the company will not alter its Southeast Asia tour itineraries, despite growing concerns over Hongkongers being targeted and detained for scams in the region.
Steven Huen, Executive Director of EGL Tours, shared his observations during an RTHK radio interview, noting a decline in bookings for destinations like Thailand and Myanmar. Many customers have shifted their preferences to locations such as Singapore and Malaysia instead.
Huen also cautioned travelers to stay vigilant, regardless of their destination. “It’s important to be cautious, especially when going out at night,” he advised. “Always stay alert and be mindful not to let anyone take advantage of our kindness and lead us into financial loss.”
He added that some solo travelers have decided to join tour groups instead, following the rise in safety concerns.
