The Western Gateway project is exploring several initiatives to enhance transport links across Dorset, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, and parts of Somerset. Among the proposed improvements are hourly shuttle trains between Wareham and Brockenhurst, potential closure of the Poole Level Crossing, and the addition of new cycle lanes connecting BCP to Dorset and Hampshire councils.
These proposals are part of the Western Gateway, a sub-national transport body focused on strengthening regional connectivity. The project is funded through a mix of contributions from the Department for Transport and local authorities. A total of 38 investment proposals have been identified as part of a Strategic Investment Plan.
