The journey to Manang, a popular tourist destination in Nepal, has become much easier due to the recent expansion of road infrastructure. After nearly 20 years of development, the Dumre-Besisahar-Chame road section has seen significant progress, making the region more accessible.
The Dumre-Besisahar-Chame road project has completed the blacktopping of eight kilometers of road in the last fiscal year. The stretch from Besisahar to Khudi is now fully paved, according to Suman Adhikari, the project’s sub-engineer.
Adhikari noted that the Manang-Marsyangdi Hydropower Project has played a key role in the road development, particularly in the challenging terrain of the region. The project’s vehicles have contributed to accelerating infrastructure improvements. The government has allocated Rs 510 million to continue the construction of roads and bridges along the Besisahar-Chame section.
Pratikman Singh Pradhan, Assistant Manager of Butwal Hydropower Company Limited, emphasized that road widening and infrastructure work around the roundabout area are underway to facilitate material transportation for the hydropower project. He also pointed out that the road improvements will boost tourism and the local economy.
“Manang’s development goes beyond energy production. Expanding the road network will not only ease travel but also strengthen tourism, helping the local economy,” said Pradhan. “Road development plays a crucial role in both energy production and improving the daily lives of locals.”
The 135 MW Manang-Marsyangdi Hydropower Project, located in Chame and Nason rural municipalities, is prioritizing road infrastructure. The project, with a total cost of Rs 33.38 billion, is a joint venture between Butwal Power Company and three Chinese companies.
Once completed in four years, the project will generate around 766.6 gigawatt hours of electricity annually. It is expected to greatly benefit the local community by improving transportation and supporting tourism, which is vital for Manang’s economic growth.
