Hong Kong Airlines has resumed its seasonal service to the Gold Coast, operating four flights per week from January 17 to February 15, 2025. This schedule aligns with the Chinese Lunar New Year, bringing visitors to Queensland during a peak tourism period. The flights are served by an A330 wide-body aircraft, offering both business and economy-class options.
To mark the occasion, a ceremony took place at the boarding gate before the inaugural flight. Key figures from Hong Kong Airlines, Gold Coast, and Queensland Airports, as well as the Airport Authority Hong Kong, were present. Hong Kong Airlines chairman, Yan Bo, expressed excitement about the full flight, with approximately 300 passengers aboard for the inaugural trip. He added that the airline looks forward to bringing more visitors to Hong Kong to experience the vibrant Lunar New Year celebrations and savor authentic Hong Kong cuisine.
Jeff Sun, President of Hong Kong Airlines, emphasized the airline’s commitment to providing high-quality services. Passengers can enjoy flexible baggage allowances, complimentary inflight meals, and comfortable seating, ensuring a pleasant travel experience.
Queensland Airports Limited CEO, Amelia Evans, welcomed Hong Kong Airlines’ return and expressed optimism about the connection boosting tourism in the region. “We hope this link will open the door for longer-term services between Hong Kong, the Greater Bay Area, and Mainland China,” she said.
Tourism and Events Queensland representative Ollie Philpot highlighted the efforts made to promote the Gold Coast in Hong Kong and Mainland China, aiming to drive demand for the flights. Queensland Tourism Minister, Andrew Powell, also noted the positive impact of the influx of visitors on local jobs and the economy.
Acting Gold Coast Mayor, Donna Gates, celebrated the return of the service after six years and its contribution to the region. John Warn, CEO of Experience Gold Coast, called the resumption a significant step for the local tourism industry, especially given the importance of the Chinese market.
The Gold Coast route marks Hong Kong Airlines’ first move back into long-haul flights as part of its expanding network. The airline is also exploring new destinations, including potential services to Los Angeles, Seattle, and Toronto, as it continues to grow its fleet.
