At least 100 travelers scheduled for group tours to Sendai, Japan, have been forced to cancel or reschedule their plans after Greater Bay Airlines announced a significant number of flight cancellations.
Travel agency WWPKG reported that the airline canceled 128 flights between Japan, South Korea, and Thailand for February and March due to delays in the delivery of new aircraft and mandatory safety inspections of its current fleet.
The cancellations are expected to impact approximately 5,500 passengers. WWPKG’s executive director, Yuen Chun-ning, expressed frustration over the lack of prior notice from the airline, highlighting the inconvenience caused to travelers.
Additionally, Yuen warned that affected individual travelers may not be eligible for compensation, as the cancellations were not caused by adverse weather conditions.
Yuen also noted a sharp decline in bookings for group tours and individual trips to Thailand during the Lunar New Year holiday. This decline is likely linked to recent job scams targeting Southeast Asia, which have led to a significant drop in inquiries for tours to Thailand. As a result, some group members are opting for alternative destinations, such as Taiwan and Singapore.
