Lapland’s airports have experienced significant growth, handling a record 1.8 million passengers in the past year, marking a 19% increase. This surge was driven by the expansion of direct international routes. Rovaniemi Airport, in particular, led the way, welcoming 948,000 passengers—a 29% jump, bringing it close to the 1-million mark.
Meanwhile, Helsinki Airport managed 16.3 million passengers, a 6.5% increase, thanks to expanded airline routes. Despite this growth, Finland’s recovery still lags behind that of Norway and Sweden, where passenger numbers have rebounded to 95% and 81% of pre-pandemic levels, respectively.
Leisure travel saw a significant rise, especially to Mediterranean destinations, while business travel continued to decline. Finland’s top air travel markets remained Germany, Sweden, Spain, and the UK.
