The Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) is warning travelers to prepare for hazardous travel conditions beginning Thursday morning.
Travelers are encouraged to delay their trips if possible or use public transportation. Those able to work remotely should consider doing so. PBOT has been proactive in applying anti-icer to streets, including 2,000 gallons on Tuesday night, in preparation for the storm.
The National Weather Service predicts a mix of snow and freezing rain starting Thursday morning. Freezing rain is expected to create dangerous conditions on sidewalks, streets, and bridges. It may also cause trees to accumulate ice, which could lead to power outages.
Strong easterly winds are also forecasted to impact the area on Wednesday and Thursday, with the most significant effects expected in East Portland and areas near the Columbia River Gorge.
