Taiwan Implements New Safety Warnings for Travelers to High-Risk Countries

by Mary

Taiwan has introduced new safety measures for travelers heading to countries with high risks of fraud and exploitation. Starting now, airline tickets for these destinations will include explicit safety warnings. Travelers are also encouraged to download a travel safety app created by Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, designed to raise awareness and improve security while abroad.

This move follows a series of incidents in which Taiwanese citizens were tricked into working in fraud rings, particularly in Cambodia and Myanmar. The recent release of 260 foreign nationals from a scam center in Myanmar, including seven Taiwanese, has brought renewed attention to the dangers of such operations. The individuals are now being interviewed by Thai police and will be repatriated shortly.

In response, Taiwan’s National Immigration Agency and the Aviation Police Bureau will strengthen efforts to prevent citizens from unknowingly falling into these fraudulent networks. Airlines are being asked to help by including safety warnings on electronic tickets.

Since its launch in 2022, Taiwan’s travel safety app has provided critical information on potential threats and safety protocols for tourists. The app aims to give Taiwanese travelers the knowledge to navigate high-risk regions safely.

These measures reflect Taiwan’s commitment to protecting its citizens and highlight the importance of international cooperation in combating fraud and ensuring global safety.
