Launceston Airport is preparing for a multi-million dollar upgrade to its departure hall, marking the largest renovation in nearly two decades. The overhaul will expand the departure area, enhancing leisure options for travelers and refreshing three amenity blocks with modern updates, including new Wi-Fi and charging services.
The airport will introduce three new venues later this year: Gatty’s Bar and Kitchen, named after aviation pioneer Harold Gatty; Kanamaluka Café, inspired by the Aboriginal name for the Tamar River; and Tasmania’s own Liv Eat. The updates will also include a larger Launceston Store, with designs and materials drawn from Tasmania’s stunning landscapes and waterways, while featuring the best local food and wine.
Launceston Airport has served as Tasmania’s tourism gateway for 94 years. CEO Shane O’Hare emphasized the significance of the renovation, stating, “This will be the biggest renovation of our terminal in almost 20 years and marks a new chapter in Launceston Airport’s history.”
