Former top federal officials and travel industry leaders are urging Congress and the White House to create an interagency task force to oversee national travel policy. The call comes as part of efforts to expand biometric security screening and other technology-driven capabilities at U.S. airports.
A report released on February 19 by the U.S. Travel Association (USTA), in collaboration with former Department of Homeland Security officials, outlines a new travel strategy aimed at improving security and efficiency. The report emphasizes the need for swift action as U.S. air travel reaches record levels.
The report highlights that 2024 is expected to set a new high for domestic air travel, and 2025 is projected to see a nearly 4% increase, exceeding $1 trillion in value, returning to pre-pandemic levels, with further growth expected.
