Tourism plays a key role in economic growth, cultural exchange, and fostering diplomatic relationships. In a meeting today in Athens, Greece’s Minister of Tourism, Olga Kefalogianni, and Canada’s Ambassador to Greece, Karine Asselin, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to enhance cooperation in the tourism sector.
The MOU focuses on increasing collaboration between the two nations to share travel and tourism insights. Both countries aim to improve tourism strategies and create opportunities to increase tourism flows between Canada and Greece. The areas of focus will include institutional cooperation, sharing travel data, and exchanging best practices on climate action within tourism.
Canada and Greece also enjoy a strong trade relationship, supported by the Canada–European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA). In 2024, their bilateral trade reached $645.8 million.
The cultural ties between the two nations are deeply rooted in shared values such as democracy and human rights. With nearly 300,000 Canadians of Greek descent and many Canadians living, working, and studying in Greece, the bond between the two countries is stronger than ever.
