This milestone marks the highest single-day influx of cruise passengers since the terminal’s opening in 2011, showcasing China’s growing presence in global cruise tourism.
According to the China National Tourism Administration (CNTA) and the Shanghai Municipal Government, cruise tourism has become a key focus of China’s inbound travel sector. With international cruise lines expanding their operations in the city, Shanghai is positioning itself as China’s premier cruise hub, attracting travelers from Europe, North America, and Asia.
Record-Breaking Arrivals via AIDAstella & Spectrum of the Seas
Two major cruise ships contributed to this record-breaking day:
AIDAstella (AIDA Cruises): On its first visit to Shanghai, this 14-day cruise brought 2,200 foreign tourists, mainly from Germany and Poland, after stopping at ports in Bangkok, Vietnam, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Shanghai.
Spectrum of the Seas (Royal Caribbean): Operating from Wusongkou, this cruise brought 2,600 foreign tourists, reinforcing Royal Caribbean’s confidence in the Chinese market.
