Winter Storm Hits Nebraska, Colorado, Wyoming

by Mary

A major winter storm began moving across Nebraska on Tuesday evening, bringing heavy snow, high winds, and dangerous travel conditions to the Nebraska Panhandle, northeast Colorado, and southeast Wyoming.

Officials are urging drivers to avoid unnecessary travel as roads become more hazardous overnight. By 8:45 p.m. MDT, roads in the Nebraska Panhandle were partially covered with snow, ice, and slush, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation. Due to worsening conditions, road closures may be necessary throughout the night.

A winter weather advisory is in effect for Banner, Kimball, and Cheyenne counties, including Sidney, until 6 a.m. Wednesday. Forecasters predict 2 to 4 inches of snow, along with wind gusts reaching up to 55 mph, which will reduce visibility and create blowing snow hazards. A similar advisory is in place for Logan, Sedgwick, and Phillips counties in Colorado until 9 a.m. Wednesday.

The storm is expected to bring much colder temperatures and strong winds for the remainder of the week, with another round of precipitation forecast for Saturday.
