The Tourism, Arts, and Culture Ministry of Malaysia is taking steps to lift travel advisories on Sabah issued by several European nations, including France, Switzerland, and Germany. In a Facebook post, Tourism Minister Tiong King Sing reassured the public that Sabah is safe to visit, citing enhanced security measures, such as the deployment of armed forces in high-risk areas like Semporna.
The ministry plans to discuss the matter at a cabinet level and will collaborate with the Foreign and Home Ministries to begin official consultations aimed at updating the international community on Sabah’s security status. The travel advisories, however, have had a significant impact on tourism, as travelers from the affected countries are not receiving insurance cover in case of any incidents during their trips.
