While the first day of spring was Thursday, tourists have already flocked to Florida beaches for several weeks. On Monday, the FBI issued a warning to families and student spring breakers to take precautions when traveling abroad.
Several popular destinations, particularly in Mexico, are under travel alerts due to a rise in kidnappings and crimes targeting tourists. The FBI advises travelers to carefully review U.S. Department of State travel advisories.
Currently, the State Department is urging Americans not to travel to several regions in Mexico, including Mazatlan, Mexicali Valley, Acapulco, and six states: Colima, Guerrero, Michoacan, Sinaloa, Tamaulipas, and Zacatecas, due to high levels of crime and kidnappings. The department also recommends reconsidering travel plans to Baja California, Rosarito, Tijuana, and Ensenada.
