Heathrow Airport has been forced to shut down for the entire day following a large fire at an electrical substation that supplies power to the airport.
Passengers are advised not to attempt to arrive for their scheduled flights as the airport continues to deal with a “significant power outage” caused by the blaze at the North Hyde Electricity Substation in Hayes, west London.
A spokesperson for Heathrow confirmed that fire crews are responding to the incident, but there is currently no clear timeline for when power will be fully restored. To ensure the safety of passengers and staff, the airport will remain closed until 11:59 PM on March 21, 2025.
