Several major airlines operating between Canada and the United States, including Air Canada, WestJet, American Airlines, Delta, United, Southwest, Alaska, JetBlue Airways, and Sunwing, have announced significant reductions in their flight capacities. Over 320,000 seats have been removed from scheduled flights, reflecting a sharp decline in airline capacity between the two countries through October 2025.
The most substantial cuts are occurring during the peak summer travel months of July and August, a traditionally busy time for air travel. While the overall reduction in capacity stands at about 3.5%, a more alarming trend is the 70% drop in forward bookings compared to the same period last year. This dramatic decrease indicates that travelers may be postponing or canceling plans due to ongoing economic uncertainty and trade tensions between the U.S. and Canada.
