Jetstar is expanding its trans-Tasman network with the launch of a new direct flight from Christchurch Airport to Cairns, adding to its existing routes to the Gold Coast and Melbourne. This new service gives New Zealanders an easy way to explore Tropical North Queensland’s warm beaches and rainforests while offering Australians the chance to visit Christchurch and the South Island’s stunning landscapes.
The move strengthens Jetstar’s presence at Christchurch Airport, enhancing connectivity between New Zealand and Australia.
Justin Watson, CEO of Christchurch Airport, called the new service a win for both travelers and the local economy. “This new Cairns route is great for the South Island,” he said. “It offers Kiwis a tropical getaway and makes it easier for Australians to visit our region, benefiting local tourism and businesses.”
Jenn Armor, Jetstar’s Executive Manager Customer, also highlighted the importance of the new route. “We’re thrilled to launch flights between Christchurch and Cairns,” she said. “It’s a step toward making travel more affordable and accessible for New Zealanders, and the positive response has been incredible. Queenslanders can now reach Christchurch in under six hours, bringing more visitors to the city.”
