New data from Jetstar highlights the importance of selecting the right travel companion. A survey of over 1,000 Jetstar customers found that 24% of respondents have ended a friendship after traveling together. The survey also identified the most important traits people look for in a travel buddy, as well as the biggest deal-breakers.
Costs are a major point of contention for travelers. According to the survey, 76% of respondents avoid traveling with someone who won’t pay them back or share their fair share of expenses. Additionally, 74% prefer splitting travel costs evenly, rather than taking turns paying.
Accommodation arrangements also play a role. Over 75% of respondents (77%) said they would be willing to share a hotel room with a friend to save money. This was especially true for younger travelers, with 91% of those aged 18-34 saying they would be open to sharing a room, compared to just 65% of those aged 65 and older.
When it comes to finding the perfect travel companion, shared interests are crucial. The most important qualities in a travel buddy were having similar interests (78%) and being able to spend time together without getting tired of each other (71%). Other key factors included having a similar travel budget (58%) and being a good communicator (42%).
