Aviation sector strikes in Italy and Greece are set to affect travelers, especially families during the UK’s school break and those heading into the Easter holiday. Passengers are advised to stay updated on flight statuses and prepare for possible delays and cancellations.
In Italy, EasyJet flight attendants, represented by unions FILT, CGIL, and UIL, are planning a four-hour strike on April 9 from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm CET. Flights to and from Milan and Naples airports are expected to be affected. EasyJet has assured passengers that efforts are being made to minimize disruption, and those impacted will be directly contacted with options to reschedule.
In Greece, air traffic controllers will join a 24-hour strike on the same day, April 9, organized by the public sector employee federation ADEDY. The strike is part of a broader labor dispute, with demands for holiday bonuses, wage increases, and action on the housing crisis.
The Greek Air Traffic Controllers’ Association has raised concerns about ongoing staffing shortages and outdated equipment, leading to delays in air traffic control services. During the strike, air traffic control will be limited to medical, search and rescue, humanitarian, military, and emergency flights, leaving commercial flights to face the brunt of the disruption.
