Thousands of British holidaymakers are facing major travel disruptions this Easter, as strikes by aviation workers across Europe threaten to derail their plans. Widespread walkouts are occurring in Italy and Greece, two of the UK’s most popular holiday destinations, leading to cancelled flights, delays, and growing frustration among travelers. With more strikes planned at Gatwick Airport later this month, the situation is expected to worsen before it improves.
In Greece, air traffic controllers have launched a 24-hour strike, grounding most commercial flights to and from the country. Emergency flights, military operations, humanitarian missions, and search and rescue services are the only exceptions. The strike, organized by the public sector union ADEDY, is in response to long-standing demands, including fair wage increases, the restoration of holiday bonuses, housing support, and improvements to staffing and equipment.
