The China-Laos Railway is quickly becoming the go-to transportation choice for both local residents and tourists heading to Laos’ top destinations ahead of the Lao New Year celebrations, thanks to its speed, affordability, and overall convenience.
“My friends and I are very lucky that the China-Laos Railway started operating before we came to the Lao capital Vientiane for our studies,” said Khammy, a student originally from Vangvieng. “It makes traveling to college and returning home much easier and more convenient than before.”
Khammy regularly uses the train to visit home, citing its reliability and efficiency over other modes of transport.
The railway is also proving popular among tourists seeking a comfortable and scenic way to explore the country. Destinations like the UNESCO World Heritage town of Luang Prabang and the adventure hub of Vangvieng are now more accessible than ever.
To accommodate the holiday rush, the Laos-China Railway Co., Ltd. (LCRC) has announced additional train services running from April 11 to 20. Passengers can book tickets up to seven days in advance for travel during this period.
Vientiane resident Nilavanh plans to celebrate the Lao New Year in Luang Prabang with friends and has chosen the railway as her preferred means of travel. “It’s fast, convenient, and lets us enjoy the journey together without the stress of long road travel,” she said.
The Lao New Year, or Pi Mai, is one of the country’s most significant holidays, drawing both domestic travelers and international visitors eager to join in the vibrant celebrations.
