Australian airports are preparing for a surge in passenger traffic as the Easter break draws near. Many travelers are expected to extend their holidays by combining two long weekends, while school term breaks are also underway across the country.
Thursday, April 17, is anticipated to be the busiest day for domestic travel, followed by Good Friday, April 18. Simon Westaway, CEO of the Australian Airports Association (AAA), urged passengers to plan ahead and be prepared for potential disruptions.
“We are expecting a very busy Easter period at airports across Australia. It’s important to plan ahead and prepare for any unexpected delays,” Westaway said. “Recently, there have been incidents involving disruptive passengers, and this behavior will not be tolerated. All aviation staff deserve to be treated with respect and patience.”
Westaway also highlighted ongoing infrastructure improvements at Australian airports, noting that these upgrades may change the travel experience for passengers. Over the next decade, more than $26 billion will be invested in airport infrastructure to handle growing demand.
“These construction projects, which include terminal expansions, baggage upgrades, and new runways, are already underway in many areas,” he said.
