Beijing saw a major rise in inbound tourism during the first quarter of 2025, thanks to easier travel policies and improved visitor services.
From January to March, the Chinese capital welcomed 891,000 inbound tourists, a 61.3% increase compared to the same period last year. The surge follows China’s relaxation of its visa-free transit rules, making it easier for international travelers to visit.
According to the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, 744,000 of those visitors were from overseas—an impressive 68.7% rise year-on-year. These foreign tourists made up more than 83% of all inbound travelers. Meanwhile, visitors from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan totaled 147,000, marking a 32% increase from the previous year.
To support the growth in tourism, Beijing has launched comprehensive service hubs for arriving passengers at its two major airports. The city has also upgraded its payment systems and mobile communication services to make travel smoother for international visitors.
In addition to iconic attractions like the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, and the Temple of Heaven, Beijing is now offering more immersive and diverse travel experiences. These new offerings are designed to encourage tourists to explore the city’s rich culture beyond the traditional highlights.
