As the Indonesian rupiah hits a record low, the country has seen a significant increase in the number of Malaysian tourists visiting.
The favorable exchange rate has made travel to Indonesia more affordable for Malaysians, who can now spend less on hotels, food, and transportation while enjoying their stay.
Data from the Indonesian Central Bureau of Statistics shows a 24.22% rise in Malaysian tourist arrivals by the end of 2024, reaching 2.27 million visitors.
Malaysians now account for 18.3% of all international tourists to Indonesia, making them the largest group of foreign visitors since 2022. They have surpassed tourists from other countries, including Australia, Singapore, China, Timor-Leste, and India.
