The UK Foreign Office has released updated travel advice due to the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia. The government body has warned that Russia’s economy is currently unstable, which may create difficulties with accessing goods, services, and money transfers.
“The Russian economy is unstable,” the Foreign Office’s current advice states. “This could make access to goods and services difficult.” Additionally, the advisory points out that international payment systems like Mastercard and Visa are not operational in Russia, meaning these cards will not be accepted at Russian shops or ATMs. While Russian-issued cards can still be used domestically, they will not work outside the country.
