Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari recently revealed exciting plans for a bullet train that will operate between Lahore and Rawalpindi, dramatically reducing travel time between the two cities. The new service will cut travel time down to just two hours and twenty minutes, making it a game-changer for commuters.
Additionally, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has given her approval for several high-profile projects, including the bullet train and the launch of Air Punjab, the province’s first airline. Four Airbus aircraft will be leased for Air Punjab, which will initially operate domestic flights within Pakistan. After one year of operations, the airline will be eligible to expand internationally.
Chief Minister Nawaz has tasked officials with ensuring that Air Punjab becomes the best airline in the country, with all necessary measures to ensure its success.
A detailed briefing on the Lahore to Rawalpindi bullet train project was also presented during the meeting. Various options for collaboration with Pakistan Railways were discussed, and a Public-Private Partnership model is being considered to ensure the efficiency and speed of the project. Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb has been assigned to work with Pakistan Railways on the development of this high-speed rail initiative.
